Trailcraft Method
Repack
Return to Base Camp without losing the trail.
Repack is the practice of AI conservation: preserve what your experiments taught you, clear what no longer serves you, and rebuild your Backpack for the trail ahead.
Base Camp
Where durable knowledge, provenance, decisions, and TrailLore survive every reset.
Backpack
The small, active set of tools and capabilities required for the current journey.
TrailLore
The durable lessons extracted from journeys, experiments, successes, and dead ends.
Conserve before you cull
A reset clears configuration. A Repack separates configuration from learning first, so you can empty the Backpack without losing what the trail taught you.
The Repack method
01
Survey
What am I carrying?
Make a Trail Map of the tools, prompts, skills, and dependencies in use.
02
Conserve
What knowledge must not be lost?
Extract the lessons, decisions, and working principles before changing the setup.
03
Trace
Where did it come from?
Keep the source, creator, license, provenance, and evidence behind each lesson.
04
Cull / Cache
What leaves active use?
Remove stale or redundant gear and place useful inactive gear in the Gear Locker.
05
Pack
What does the next trail require?
Rebuild the smallest active Backpack that can do the work ahead.
06
Blaze
Can someone follow this path?
Leave reusable instructions, context, and decisions for the next traveler.
07
Log
What did this Repack teach us?
Record the discoveries and dead ends so the next repack starts further along.
Leave a Trail Card
For every tool, skill, plugin, or repository, record its source, creator, license, purpose, what worked, what did not, what changed, the TrailLore it produced, and where it belongs now.
Field report: Solid
The path from Stop Slop and Unslop to Solid is the kind of journey Repack preserves: observe, use, reject, adapt, and credit the work that helped establish the trail.
The Backpack shows what we carry. Trailcraft records what we learn. Repack is how we move between them.
